Home decor: Country Style Heart Garland

. If you like the country look, you may enjoy this country decor heart string garland. This garland can be hung from a shelf, from several pegs on a wall, or even hung straight down from a hook or doorknob.

The easy instructions for crafting this country decor heart string garland are below:

Materials Need for the Heart String Garland

1. Square pieces of calico cotton fabric

You need at least six squares of country style fabric in the patterns and colors of your choice. The squares should be the correct size to craft the appropriate size of hearts for your garland.

2. A sewing machine an matching thread
3. Fiberfill or other stuffing material
4. Thick jute or other country style cord

Sewing the Hearts for the Country Decor Garland

For each country heart you plan to make, you need to cut two identical heart shapes from the calico cotton fabric. This can be done easily by making a cardboard template of a heart and tracing around it onto the wrong side of one piece of fabric. Then, place the two pieces together and cut them out at the same time.

After cutting out the fabric hearts, you should use your sewing machine to stitch them together, leaving only the very center of the top open for stuffing. Clip the curves and corners of the fabric to make it easier to turn them right side out next.

The last step in creating the country hearts is to stitch the top center of the hearts closed. Before you do this, however, you should insert an eight-inch length of jute or twine into the top. This is what the heart will hang off, or be attached to the garland with. Be sure to affix it firmly in place.

Creating the Garland and Attaching the Hearts

This country heart decorator garland can be fashioned in any length you like. To make the base for the garland, simply cut a piece of stout twine or jute. This cord should be decorative in itself. Carefully measuring even spaces, simply tie the heart strings onto the garland with small bows. You can also use loops of jute or twine attached to the heart if you wish to have a customizable country garland.

This country decor heart string garland would make a lovely addition to your home. You can craft it in any color combination, or any size, to best fit with your existing decorator scheme. Many parents want to decorate their kid’s bedroom in a special way.  One great idea for a little girl’s bedroom is a fairy and magic decor idea.  The ideas below will help you turn your kid’s bedroom into a magical fairy wonderland.

Fairy and Magic Paint Decor Ideas

Start with an empty kid’s bedroom.  The first step is to paint the walls and ceiling and perhaps get a new rug for the floor.  The rug can be in any color that your kid likes.  The walls, however, will get a special fairy magic treatment.

One bedroom decor painting idea is to paint all the walls in the room white or some other pale color.  Then, take a slightly darker color of paint and mix in a cup of silver glitter.  Mix well and use this paint to make large swirls or stenciled stars all over the walls.  When dry, the walls will sparkle.

How To Get Static Electricity Out of Your Clothes

Once we’re all dressed up in our finery for an evening out or an important business meeting, it makes us wince when we look in the mirror and see our nice clothes sticking to us. Ladies, nothing looks more disturbing than a skirt stuck to the legs up to the butt. Not a good image to put forth. Men, it’s not such a nice look when the sleeves of your suit jacket are stuck to your arms up to the elbow or across your back. Here are some tips to rid you of your static.

Make sure you use fabric softener when you do your laundry. The fabric softener sheets that you put in the dryer seem to work the best on static electricity over the liquid softeners.

If you forget to put the fabric softener sheet in the dryer, you can wipe the fabric, such as your skirt or jacket, on the inside where it sticks and this will work too!

Take your clothes back off if you’ve developed static, and give your sticky spots a small spritz with hair spray. It doesn’t have to be much, just mist will stop the static.

Run a metal coat hanger across the static-y fabric. This will discharge the electricity.

Static Guard spray is available at most discount stores. It does work well but has a slight odor.

Remove your clothing and rub lotion on the necessary portions that are sticking. Not on the clothing, on you. Rub your arms or legs or torso, or whichever is the offending body part!

Static electricity is caused by atoms rubbing together and losing their neutrality. Humidity allows the atoms to discharge their electricity, therefore, putting a wet cloth in your dryer will work as well as softener sheets. Wetting yourself or your clothing will also work, but you probably aren’t looking to get your suit wet!

Stitch a Funky Felt Amulet or Crystal Bag

You might not find a funky amulet or crystal bag at your local mall.  These small bags are designed to be worn around the neck and hold a special crystal or amulet.  They are very popular among occultists, hippies, and people interested in alternative healing and lifestyles.  With these simple instructions, you can stitch a funky felt amulet bag to hold your crystals and charms.

Materials Needed for the Amulet Bag

Scraps of colorful felt fabric
A long cord or yarn
Embroidery floss and a needle
One large button or bead
Fringe, beads, or other trims


Decorating the Amulet or Crystal Bag

The first step in creating the funky amulet or crystal bag is cutting out the pieces of felt fabric and decorating them.  Most amulet bags are less than two inches wide or long, and often much smaller.  Cut out two pieces of matching felt in your desired size.  Be sure to leave room for stitching the pieces together.

After you cut out the pieces, you have to decorate the bag.  This can be done by embroidering a design or picture onto the bag sides.  You can also cut out shapes in other felt colors and stitch them onto the bag in an appliqué.

Finishing the Amulet or Crystal Bag

After the amulet or crystal bag is decorated how you want it to be, you have to sew the whole thing together.  First, cut the cord or yarn to the length you want the strap to be.  Usually, this would be long enough to wear around the neck so that the amulet bag hangs to the middle of your chest.

Lay the pieces of felt below and above the bottom loop of the cord.  Then, using the embroidery floss and your needle, sew the pieces together.  Make sure to catch the strap or cord into the stitch each time.  The end result will be that the hanging cord will be stitched securely into the inside edge of the bag.  This will be sure to keep your amulet or crystal safe.

The last step in making the amulet bag is creating the closure for the bag.  Using a small piece of felt, create a flap or strap that goes over the top opening of the bag.  On the back side of the amulet bag, stitch this flap to the other felt fabric.  On the front side of the bag, stitch the button or bead.  Make a hole in the felt flap that fits around the button, and sew around the edges with embroidery floss to prevent tearing.

These funky bags can be made in any color or style to suit your personal taste.  If you wish to carry a specially charged crystal or amulet around with you at all times, a funky felt amulet bag is the way to go.
